About Our Maternity Program
Our number one goal for each and every family who entrusts their care to us is to make your childbirth experience as fulfilling and memorable as possible. That’s why we have created our very own maternity care model called "Family-Centered Care." The model emphasizes the nuclear family unit throughout the birthing process — from admission to discharge — and allows mother and child to stay together every moment that you’re with us. The family-oriented philosophy that guides all of our efforts encourages parents and children to bond from the very beginning, since that’s what you want to concentrate on after delivery. Our Maternity Unit
Ocean Medical Center opened the doors of its Maternal Child Services Unit in 1992, and the number of babies we deliver annual has been rising ever since. Our staff of superb physicians and nationally recognized nurses (recipients of the Magnet Aware for Nursing Excellence) are highly trained and fully prepared to meet all of your maternity care needs on our 15-bed modified labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum unit, including but not limited to:
- Normal Vaginal Delivery
- Cesarean Section
- Multiple Gestations
- Gestational Diabetes
- Pre-term Labor
- Pre-eclampsia
- Other High-Risk Obstetrical Conditions
Safety is a priority at Ocean Medical Center, so our Maternal Child Services Unit is locked and accessible only to authorized staff, maternity patients, and their families. As an added precaution, every infant wears a security safety bracelet. Furthermore, our unit offers a 24-hour nursery, childcare education aired on closed-circuit television, a host of premium maternity services, an educational program, and a Level II Special Care Nursery.
Our Specialized Services
During your stay on our unit, primary care for mom and baby is provided by our remarkable team of registered nurses, each of whom has been specially trained in all aspects of childbirth. The staff is always available to assist you in any way they can and to answer any of your questions. We recognize that you’ll have concerns and will benefit from the ongoing support of professionals before, during, and after the delivery of your child, so we offer the following special services as well:
- Lactation Expertise: Our staff will answer any and all questions about lactation both during and after your hospital stay and will guide you in all breastfeeding matters.
- State-of-the-Art Security: Our Infant Security System ensures that your child is safe at all times.
- Paperwork Assistance: Birth certificate registrar helps new mothers with the requisite paperwork.
- Admissions & Financial Consultation: Financial representatives process your admission forms and address your insurance questions.
- Grief Support: Bereavement services are available to offer comfort and support to parents grieving the loss of a child.
Just In Case
At Ocean Medical Center, we make every effort to enable you to have a problem-free labor and delivery. In the event that something unexpected occurs, our hospital maintains two fully equipped operating rooms and recovery areas in which to perform cesarean sections and high-risk births.
Moreover, we have a Level II Special Care Nursery right here on the premises to attend to any obstetrical conditions that meet Level II criteria. In this nursery, a higher level of care can be devoted to infants who need more intense observation. And the nearby Hospitality Room is available for parents who wish to stay overnight if their child requires a prolonged stay in the Special Care Nursery. This not only promotes breastfeeding, but it facilitates steady bonding between mother and child.

Bringing experienced freelance photographers, Bella Baby captures your baby's first photograph with a natural, artistic style using natural light, professional grade digital cameras, and the idea that babies look most beautiful when being held in their parents' arms or cuddled in their own blankets. These photographers work with our team of nurses to communicate with each new mom, and offer a free 15 minute session to take the photos. You will be able to electronically view and order your photos the very same day. The images are then securely posted on Bella Baby's website for you to access and share with your friends before you even leave the medical center. |
