Our Pledge to "Image Gently"
Ocean Medical Center's Imaging Services is a member of the Image Gently Campaign, the educational and awareness campaign created by the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging that was formed in July 2007. As a member of this coalition, Ocean Medical Center pledges our dedication to providing safe, high quality pediatric imaging.
How can we minimize radiation risk to children?
There are ways to ensure that children are exposed to the smallest amount of radiation possible during an imaging study. The Image Gently Campaign promotes the following scanning strategies for children to minimize radiation risk:
- Image when there is a clear medical benefit
- Use the lowest amount of radiation for adequate imaging based on the size of the child
- Image only the indicated area
- Avoid multiple scans
- Use alternative diagnostic studies (such as ultrasound or MRI) when possible
