Stereotactic Biopsy Procedure
About the Stereotactic Biopsy Procedure
Should you need a breast biopsy, The Women’s Imaging Pavilion at Ocean Medical Center offers stereotactic needle biopsy, an alternative to traditional surgical biopsy with less pain and scarring. The stereotactic guided needle biopsy procedure uses computer imagery to direct a needle under X-ray guidance to remove a small portion of the breast tissue. This is a relatively short procedure, performed on an outpatient basis by a specially trained physician assisted by a mammography technologist. Biopsy results are usually available within 24 hours.
