The Guild of Ocean Medical Center recently donated an IPod Touch and IHome Docking Station to the Women's Imaging Pavilion at Ocean Medical Center. This gift will benefit patients undergoing surgical procedures, using music to provide some comfort and help create the best patient experience. Patients can use the newly donated iPod or can bring their own iPod and play it through the docking radio. The Guild of Ocean Medical is committed to creating a better patient experience while at our hospital.
Most recent, The Guild has purchased an instrument called the Baarx Medical Halo ($70,000). Since 1970 the occurrence of esophageal cancer has gone up 500%. Historically, the only option after diagnosis of Barrett's esophageal cancer was watchful waiting. Today, with the Baarx Medical Halo technology, it is possible to treat esophageal cancer before the disease progresses. We are excited about the purchase of this instrument and will keep you apprised of its arrival at the hospital in the spring. With your help, we have also raised nearly $20,000 to bring us closer to fulfilling our five-year pledge of $100,000 to benefit Emergency Services and equipment for the Ocean Care Center in Point Pleasant. We are in the process of purchasing new waiting room furniture for the Care Center as well.
Thanks to the generosity of the Guild of Ocean Medical Center, a portable Venous Ultrasound machine started making the rounds in November of 2011. With a nurse dedicated to manning this advanced technology, the Site Rite 6 portable ultrasound is being used to insert peripheral and central lines. This equipment has already decreased wait times for PICC line insertions. Most importantly, it can be easily transported throughout the hospital where needed.
