John K. Lloyd, FACHE

My idea of summer fun involves plenty of outdoor activities, such as cookouts, boating, and golfing. These activities are perfectly suited for life here in Monmouth and Ocean counties — home to some of the best golf courses and boating in New Jersey!

To stay "up on my game," I take care of myself throughout the year by watching my diet and exercising as often as I can. You may think I have the advantage of having the medical experts of Meridian Health to help keep me on track, but remember — you do too.

Meridian Health offers a variety of free programs for your benefit and enjoyment. For example, this summer we're offering free screenings to help you stay on top of your blood pressure, cholesterol, body fat, and bone density numbers. This can help you reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke — two leading killers.

If you're an avid golfer like me, I also suggest you check out the article on page 16, which describes some common injuries golfers face — and gives you tips on how to prevent them. We're also offering a free brochure from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sport Medicine on the topic. You can register for one by calling the Meridian Health Line at
1-800-560-9990.

I wish you a healthy and happy summer and look forward to running into some of you on the golf course!

Sincerely,

John K. Lloyd, FACHE
