Transforming Care: The New Jersey Shore

This original rendering of Jersey Shore's expansion project reflects the vision of quality health care Meridian Health has for the community.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center is planning an expansion that transforms the patient care experience. From private rooms to parking improvements to cutting-edge technology, the Transforming Care project means even better care for you.

The best quality care available when needed most — that's what every community wants. It's what Jersey Shore University Medical Center has always delivered. And now, Jersey Shore will continue to provide cutting-edge care with its five-year expansion project. The project is called "Transforming Care: The New Jersey Shore."

The $292-million plan includes major changes and additions to the campus. But the plan goes beyond buildings. It also combines the latest in medical technology with a tradition of compassionate care. The result: A total transformation of your experience as a patient at Jersey Shore.

"Combined with our exceptional clinical care services, the 'new' Jersey Shore means a more accessible and comfortable healing atmosphere," says Steven G. Littleson, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center. "This plan will impact the patient experience, starting with improved access to the campus and the availability of ample and convenient parking, and continuing on with the overall aesthetic design of the buildings, which include plenty of large windows, soothing colors, and home-like furnishings."

Building a Better Care Experience
The Transforming Care project begins with a redesign of the campus. There will be three zones — inpatient, diagnostic, and outpatient. The zones include two new patient care buildings:

  1. The Northwest Pavilion will feature private rooms as well as a beautiful four-story central atrium. The atrium is directly connected to a 975-space parking garage. The pavilion also will house a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department and Trauma Center that's nearly twice as large as the current one.

  2. The new Diagnostic and Treatment Building will include six surgery suites outfitted with the latest technology. Plus, it will offer a new intensive care unit dedicated to cardiac patients.

The plan also calls for renovating the existing Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care Center, Radiology, and Pharmacy.

Unique Touches For Your Care and Comfort
The Transforming Care project also offers some uncommon special extras. It's all part of creating a total healing environment focused on you, the patient. The project includes:

  • plenty of parking and expanded valet service
  • 24-hour room service and bedside Internet access
  • comfortable waiting areas and healing gardens
  • innovative, responsive nursing care.

"We are humbled by the trust our patients place in us, and we are working hard to ensure that the care and services we offer exceed their expectations," says Littleson.

"Meridian Health has been successful at keeping up with the demands of our growing communities in providing the most advanced services and treatment options available at our partner hospitals and through our community-based partner companies," says John K. Lloyd, FACHE, president of Meridian Health. "We are now looking forward to what is to come at the 'new' Jersey Shore."
