Ocean Medical Center's formal Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program will allow you to learn to cope with your illness while improving your physical health. If you feel you may benefit from our program you will need a prescription from your physician. Once you have a prescription, you may call and schedule your initial evaluation.
Evaluation & Program
During your initial visit, our staff will review your medical history and determine if you are appropriate for our program. We will discuss exercise options and breathing techniques used to overcome shortness of breath with activity.
Our team will assist you with setting goals to get you on your way to improved health. We will advance exercise to your tolerance and evaluate your progress daily. We will monitor your heart rate, oxygen level, and blood pressure.
Our staff is trained and certified in emergency care and our facility is located in the medical center, providing a safe exercise environment.

Pulmonary StepUp Program
Pulmonary StepUp is an exercise program designed to improve your quality of life. It involves exercising in a group while having your blood pressure taken and learning to monitor your heart rate. This program also teaches you about lung disease and how to have a healthy lifestyle. The program includes:
- Exercise
- Exercise in a group with a program designed for each person’s needs
- Sessions are scheduled three times a week
- Sessions are supervised by a nurse, an exercise physiologist, and a respiratory therapist
- Education
- Proper breathing techniques
- Warning signs of an infection
- The effect of weather on your breathing
- Exercise and COPD
- Use of medications
- Stress management
- Nutrition
