Ocean Medical Center Association History
Brick Hospital NJ - MCOC - Ocean Medical Center
The Ocean Medical Center Association was originally known as "The Brick Township Hospital Fund Group". From 1961 - 1968 a group of concerned citizens, known in the newspapers as "Friends of Brick Hospital", worked tirelessly to generate interest in the possibility of the greater Brick area having its own hospital, since southern Monmouth County and northern Ocean County were growing at such a rapid pace. We're proud to say that through decades of fundraising and keeping the dream alive, we provided the impetus to build what was originally known as "Brick Hospital" at a time when Point Pleasant Hospital was the only facility serving the health care needs of these communities. "Brick Hospital Fund" became our official name in 1968.
As the primary force behind fundraising in the 60's and 70's to build the much-needed hospital in Brick, we (as the Brick Hospital Fund) actually purchased and donated the acreage in October of 1969. After decades of traveling, petitioning, campaigning, and fundraising across the state of NJ to keep the dream alive and bring a hospital to the Greater Brick area, the Brick group merged with Point Pleasant Hospital in 1981 and, together, they became the Northern Ocean Hospital System. It was through the efforts of the original team of Brick Hospital Trustees and The Brick Hospital Fund that a health care facility located in Brick became more than just "The Impossible Dream". Groundbreaking for the new hospital was in July of 1982, and Brick Hospital officially opened its doors on the 4th of July 1984.
Over time the "Brick Hospital Fund" became known as "The Brick Hospital Association" and is currently working under the name of "The Ocean Medical Center Association". We have always operated as a non-profit organization. In recent years, The Association has pledged over $2,000,000 toward the OMC Building Fund for improvements to this facility. The hospital in Brick has grown substantially and has undergone several expansions over the past few decades, and we're proud to admit that getting the hospital built in Brick was where The Association did its best work!
In the decades since its inception, the hospitals' name has changed from Brick Hospital, to The Medical Center of Ocean County (MCOC), to its current moniker of Ocean Medical Center.
